Awesome podcast on “Building a Yoga Class.” Every teacher training course should have this as required material. The practical advice shared is invaluable. Highly recommended!
Brian Aganad says

This came with perfect timing as I’m adding a new class at another yoga studio in a couple of weeks. I find that doing yoga helps relieve the stresses of being a yoga teacher. I agree with the new class build-up and building your class as a community makes life so much easier. Also the tips you gave for being able to develop and feel the vibe of the room was particularly useful. As for the names, that’s what I’ve overlooked too as a teacher. I sometimes think a student will feel offended if I keep asking for their names. I’m finding what’s real important is to just be yourself as it’s usually the vibe I want my students to have — is to just be themselves.
Brian Aganad says
Jonathan, congrats man! Where are you teaching now? But yep, easier to be yourself than try to create an image of someone you’re not.
Jonathan says
The studio is Be the Change in Downtown San Jose. The community is great there and I’m looking forward to teaching and bringing in some workshops there.

Thanks Brian for sharing this valuable information with us! Great points to consider. I’ve been building my class during this entire year and you are completely right, it takes a lot of patience and it is necessary to be aware and pay attention to all the details. Big takeaways for me after listening to you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🙂
Brian Aganad says
Hi Isabel, glad you found it useful! And yes, as a teacher, it’s all about patience and details. Keep up the good work! 🙂

I like your podcast and have been teaching for a few years. I agree with your suggestions and “subtle” techniques to help build a class and make a better teacher. I recently taped myself teaching a class – while I think the sequence and vibe was good I hated my own voice!!! Do you have recommendations on hot to get a more natural sounding voice when you teach your class versus the “teacher” voice? Thank you Brian!
Brian Aganad says
Lisa, you’re awesome!! Thanks for reminding me of this. This will make for a great show, I’ll get to recording this one ASAP!! Be on the lookout for this one. 😀
Nancy says
Thank you for your podcasts. Great refresher points as well as new concepts to consider!
Brian Aganad says
Thanks Nancy for the kind words, let me know if you have any questions!
Deana Elwell says
Great suggestions! I leave the class immediately to open the door protect the register but when I was at a class a teacher did that and it felt rude to me! It took me listening to your podcasts the relate the two…don’t know why that wasn’t obvious to me but thank you. Also not pleasing everyone is what I needed to hear! Thank you thank you thank you!!
Brian Aganad says
Deana, yes it’s so important, finding your tribe and bending over backwards for them! Just ignore the rest, it makes your job easier and your classes fuller. 🙂
